Position Title: Community Education Specialist
Status: Full-Time / Salary
I. General Description
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Community Education Specialist
is responsible for promoting community awareness of issues pertaining to sexual
assault and relationship violence, as well as outreach to underserved
populations. Special emphasis will be directed to school populations via a
prevention curriculum which addresses issues such as respect, personal
boundaries, dating rights, healthy relationships, sexual assault laws and
definitions, and where and how to obtain assistance if needed.
II Minimum Qualifications
B.A. degree required, preferably in education, communications, or human
services. Experience in teaching or public speaking preferred. Knowledge of
prevention programming desired.
III. Job Responsibilities
• Responding to requests for community presentations
• Making frequent and regular contact with community organizations, clubs,
or businesses to offer sexual assault prevention and awareness programs and
follow-up with each contact
• Preparation of all presentation outlines, handouts, and educational materials
• Informing Program Director of materials that are needed for presentations,
resource packets, and other activities (videos, brochures, cards, etc.)
• Distributing resource materials to schools, allied professionals, and other
community programs Contacting all area elementary, middle and high schools via
letter and face to face appointments once a year to discuss the availability of
school-site violence prevention programming
• Updating the violence prevention program as needed
• Scheduling and coordination of all school programs and other projects
requested by the Program Director
• Ensuring that accurate and up to date records are compiled on each
presentation request and that proper confirmation, evaluation, and follow-up
correspondence is also maintained
• Keeping Program Director informed of all upcoming presentations includes
copies of presentation objectives/outline, and evaluations
• Devise outcome measurement methods and utilize these tools with all
presentations
• Coordinate with other agencies to plan and execute week long PowerGirls
Day Camp
• Assist with preparation of quarterly reports to VDH
• Participate in and positively represent the Crisis Line Agency during work
related activities held outside of regular work hours
• Provide on-call coverage as needed
• Other duties as assigned
