•        General Awareness Programs
A variety of  programs are available to increase  
awareness of sexual violence. Popular topics
include:   drug/alcohol abuse and sexual assault,
Myths/Reality of sexual assault in society, date
rape drugs, sexual assault laws, what men can do,
sexual harassment, domestic/dating violence, and
victim services.

•        College Campus Programs
Educational programs are often presented during  
freshman orientation, residence assistant training,
and dormitory/hall meetings.  SARP staff also
work with students in coordinating activities for  
wellness fairs, and Sexual Assault/Domestic
Violence Awareness Month.

•        Self Defense/Personal Safety Programs  
Participants are informed of  safety approaches
that help to increase awareness and reduce risk of
victimization. We also offer a complete 12-hour
self-defense course for women ages 13 and up.
Certified instructors teach realistic self-defense
tactics and techniques.  This is a comprehensive
program that begins with awareness and
avoidance tactics and then progresses to actual
hands on defensive training.

•        Training for Professionals
In an effort to increase knowledge and awareness
of sexual abuse and assault, SARP provides a
variety of educational programs to area law
enforcement, medical  personnel, social services,
and various other community organizations.  Our
staff has extensive experience in working with
victims and families which enables us to
accurately present material.  Training topics
include child/teen/adult sexual assault,
psychological reactions of victims, date rape
drugs, working with victims of assault, victim
services, and reducing sexual harassment in the
workplace.

•        Youth Violence Prevention Program  
Dynamic, interactive lessons for middle and high  
school aged youth.  We have a fully established
curriculum for grades 6 through 12.   This      
curriculum complies with the Virginia Standards of
Learning for family life.  We also offer a variety of  
activities for after-school clubs or any other youth-
oriented organization. Topics include sexual
harassment, respect, personal boundaries, dating
rights, healthy relationships,  sexual assault laws,
and victim services.  All programs can be    
customized to suit scheduling.
