SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE PROGRAM
SARP Companion Job Description
I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Sexual Assault Response Program Victim Services Coordinator, SARP Companions will be
on-call to offer crisis intervention, support, and advocacy in hospital and police settings. SARP Companions may
have job responsibilities which include:
A. Client Services
B. Community Outreach
C. Volunteer Training
D. Volunteer Recruitment
II. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Maturity, emotional stability, and dependability
2. Good oral and written communication skills
3. Access to a vehicle
4. Must have completed 33 hours of sexual assault and domestic violence
Companion Training
5. Be able to commit to at least one year of service
III. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Client Services
1. Serve at least six, six hour on-call shifts per month.
2. Respond to all requests for crisis intervention services during on-call
shifts
3. Follow up with the Victim Services Coordinator the next day following a
crisis call
4. Maintain appropriate case notes and statistical information, and turn
these in to the Victim Services Coordinator in a timely manner.
5. Attend at least five in-services a year
6. Participate in SARP volunteer debriefing sessions four times a year
B. Community Outreach (optional)
1. Assist with educational presentations to members of the community
2. Represent SARP at the Annual Candlelight Vigil, community and
information booths, and at fund-raising events.
C. Volunteer Training (optional)
1. Be a guest speaker at a SARP Companion Training.
2. Assist with SARP Companion Training.
3. Assist and/or develop, and implement, in-service training for SARP
Companions.
4. Act as mentor volunteer to new volunteer trainees.
D. Volunteer Recruitment (optional)
1. Aid Victim Services Coordinator in distributing information concerning
SARP/Crisis Line recruitment at churches, universities, colleges,
and other clubs and organizations in Lynchburg and the
surrounding areas
2. Travel with the Victim Services Coordinator to speak at volunteer
Recruitment fairs about the program and its volunteer opportunities.
